Hustles and Haters
Doesn’t everyone wish they have 40 hours in every day? Here is how I handle my ever growing list of hustles andddd the growing list of haters :)
I have so much going on sometimes that I feel like I need to split myself into two people to get it all finished. There always seems to be more to do then time to do it in. So I have become a master multi-tasker and planner. And as certain as there is only 24 hours in a day there will always be someone who hates on you for working hard. Keep reading to learn my tips and tricks on how to deal with both the hustle and the haters.
Obviously I have day to day stuff I do but my major hustles and projects are:
Completely Re-Do Our Home
Re-side, re-shingle, re-everything the outside of our house
Paint and re-decorate our second floor in our house - guest bathroom, gym, my closet, the eventual nursery, and the master bath/bed
Training for Half Marathon
Blog
Instagram Partnerships
MBA Classes
I do work about 50 hours a week at my 9-5 job and we have 4 animals at home to take care of as well
Managing the Hustle
Don’t put things off. Seriously, don’t procrastinate things.
If you have the energy to do it now, just do it now. Obviously sometimes you don’t get through everything on your list or even start it and that’s okay. Monday I came home from work and didn’t touch my to-do list at all! I was exhausted and fell asleep at like 6 PM. You can’t beat yourself up over those days, they happen to everyone. They just can’t happen every day, otherwise you’ll never get anything done.
Make lists.
Every weekday I take a sticky note, make my list, and put it on my day planner. Simple housework tasks, my running plan for the day, blog notes, anything. My list on Wednesday looked like this:
Run 2 x 2
Start Blog
Submit Assignment #2
Empty Dishwasher
Meeting with Contractor
Class 7 PM
I have my half marathon training, school, and every day tasks all done before I start class that night. (And to be fair I sometimes write my blog during class time, don’t tell Professor Dain!)
Plus when you are done you get to cross off something! Which I find immensely gratifying!
I live and die by my I-Phone. Not for the social media but for the calendar and notes Apps.
Sometimes I will randomly remember something in the middle of the night that’s either a good idea for content or something I need to remember to do at work the next day and I will just use my voice to text on my notes and “write” it down. This really should be listed first because I live and die by these Apps. They are really what makes me good an juggling 7 major projects at once.
Use all the hours in your day.
From the moment I get up to the moment I go to sleep I am doing something. I think it’s because of my anxiety or I just have an active personality or possibly the 3 cups of coffee I have everyday. Don’t get me wrong, I am queen of the naps some weekends but when I am awake I am productive.
Prioritize and take breaks, not everything has to be done all at once.
That’s how you get burned out and loose that hustle motivation. I have an active social life too. Friends, family, vacations, shopping, brunch and I make time for that too. You have to be able to prioritize and move tasks around on your terms. And take that Saturday off for brunch with the girls!
Break down your major hustles down into more manageable tasks.
For example, I write my blog in stages over a period of days, I batch my Instagram content to post throughout the week, and I sprinkle my class quizzes and assignments during the week.
Silencing the Haters
It’s unfortunate that women cannot just support other women but they don’t. It’s about how you react or don’t react to it. The easiest way to deal with is to let is wash right over you. The opinions of others is irrelevant. If it makes you happy and you aren’t negatively impacting anyone or anything else then go for it! Your hustles are yours, don’t let others steal that passion from you.
Remember, first they watch, then they hate, and then they copy…
