Why I Chose NOT to Microblade

Everyone wants those Instagram eyebrows, including myself. So I took my butt to the Med Spa for a consultation and here is what I learned…

They don’t call it permeant makeup for nothing

If you have looked at microblading at all you probably already know this but they tattoo your eyebrows on. That’s what microblading is. I don’t know who developed the trend of tattooing features on your body but my guess is it was one of the Kardashians.

Do we not all remember the 200os where practically no eyebrows were all the rage? Could you imagine if that was permanent? I don’t like something I can’t eventually reverse without a MAJOR cost. Even a boob job seems like less of a commitment for me.

Say you are like 50% of girls and have blonde hair and brunette hair both within the span of a year, (Not that I recommend that. That’s really not healthy for your hair) not all eyebrow shades match blonde and brunette hair. What are you going to do? Go back and get it redone every time you change your hair color? And God forbid you want to go red! Ya’ll would have gorgeous hair with mismatched eyebrows!

I have several tattoos and they aren’t pain free

Could you imagine having your face tattooed? And microblading is not a simple “design” it is intricate and takes a lot of time for an esthetician to do. Rightfully so, you don’t want to look like they took a sharpie to your face. Even with numbing cream I am not sure I could commit to having a tattoo gun near my face. Let alone for the hour plus that it takes to get all the detail work done. Plus have ya’ll had numbing cream on your face? It kind of gives me anxiety!!

Touch-ups are 100% necessary and 100% for life

If you don’t touch up your eyebrow ink it turns grey…that’s right, GREY! I read horror stories about this online and the esthetician confirmed. The face takes a lot of roughness: exfoliating, face masks, toners, etc. All of those things weaken the ink in the skin causing the ink to fade or at least that’s how it made sense to me, but I am no scientist. Now it of course isn’t a month later that the ink breaks down, it happens over time. I believe they said if you aren’t too hard on your face it would be every 2-3 years that you would need a touch-up. If you didn’t touch-up then…GREY!

Touch-ups are also not free, you have to pay every time. At least where I went you did. I was not too keen on paying every 2 years for my eyebrows, just so I didn’t spend 15 minutes drawing them on every day.

Say the 00s eyebrows come back, how do you get your eyebrows thin again?

There are two options for “stopping” microblading. One, you do nothing and you have the grey affect for a period of time. Can you imagine if your eyebrows don’t go grey at the same time? What if one eyebrow fades quicker then the other? Now you are just out there looking like a fool. Option two, which I am sure most people would do to avoid looking like the option one fool. You pay (again) to have them removed, not cheap and not pain free. Also can take several sessions so that pain and cost is drawn out over several weeks…yay.

Now…

If someone could guarantee me that the big beautiful eyebrows would remain on trend for the next 15+ years, I would definitely commit to microblading. But seeing as low rise jeans are coming back, I can’t commit to a trend that ultimately will be fleeting.
