A Brunch Review - St. Kilda’s Collective
Here we go again! Ya’ll know I loooovvvveee a good mimosa. Another month, another locale, another review.
Mimosas - 7/10
You know I love champagne…and juice I guess, but mostly champagne. Actually I hate juice. Like most high-end brunch locales, the juice was hand pressed. They had your standards - pineapple, orange, cranberry, etc. but they also had strawberry. Something I had never had before so I gave it a go. It looked pretty! But it was very tart and not overly flavorful. If I didn’t know it was strawberry, I wouldn’t have guessed that was the flavor. Champagne was great but you know what I say, bad juice runs a mimosa long before bad champagne!
Another constructive complaint, they don’t offer bottomless…maybe give that a go Kilda.
Food - 6/10
I have eaten here several times without experiencing brunch. Everything is so fresh and crisp. Though the menu never seems to change, or very rarely changes. I have been eating their through several seasons and the menu hasn’t changed much at all. Anyone who is a follower of the blog knows that I don’t eat meat. Having that restriction, there really wasn’t a lot of options for me.
Last time I was there I had, what I guess I would call cinnamon toast? It was good but looking back on it was really just cinnamon toast with apple butter and raspberries. They do make all their bread and such on site. It’s good but at the end of the day it’s just toast.
Something that is amazing and I will continue to return to?! Their Australian coffee!!! It’s two scopes of vanilla ice cream and 3 shots of espresso. It’s absolutely to DIE for! This is a 11/10 all on it’s own!!!
Service - 8/10
Service was average. Waitress was very attentive and came back several times to check in on us. They leave a jug of water on the table, one of my favorite things. I hate when the waitress has to come back and forth six times to get bring water.
My husband did order an Irish Coffee, something that isn’t on the menu, and the bar tender (which I also think is the manager) mixed it so well with no complaints!!
Ambience - 9/10
The décor is simplistic, understated but classic. Earth tones, very relaxing. My favorite part?! The coffee saucer has a little divot in it so the cups don’t slide around! Such a great idea! I NEED this for my home! I tend to be a bit accident prone.
One criticism, the tables are close together. We went very early on a Saturday (8 AM or so) and they sat all the patrons together in the same spot. I understand that is probably has to do with staffing and zones, etc. but it I accidently kicked the table next to us when I went to cross my legs. It was a bit uncomfortable to say the least.
