Shoe Review - Thred Up

I am sure everyone has seen this add on Facebook. Well I clicked and ordered 4 pairs of designer shoes. Here’s what I thought…

I have said this before, I don’t really care for second hand, unless I can set eyes on the product. So I was a little apprehensive about it, but all my work shoes crapped out at the same time (as they do ) and I like nice shoes. This seemed like a no brainer for a good option for high quality shoes with affordable prices.

Here is what I got:

  • Hot Pink Sam Edelman’s Pumps with Ankle Strap

  • Red Stuart Weitzman Pumps

  • Black Ted Barker Pumps

  • Poletto Nude Pumps

Condition

You can filter on the site for different condition levels: new with tags, like-new, gently used, and signs of wear. I filtered for new with tags and like-new only. It dramatically decreases the number of results the site provides, but still a lot to sort through. All the shoes I ended up with came with the like-new tag though, and when I got them they were of all in varying like-new states.

Obviously all the bottoms had wear. They were clearly worn prior to coming to me, as none of them were new with tags.

Sam Edelman’s - The toe piece is suede and the side and strap is leather. There was a bit of a dark mark on the suede of the left shoe. I figured there would be some wear-and-tear with suede. Even when I buy new shoes I always scuff the suede within two days. Otherwise the condition was great!

Stuart Weitzman’s - These were in the best condition of all 4. They are all leather, and really the only way I could tell they had been worn was the bottom. No marks, scuffs, etc.

Poletto’s - These were in good condition. Again, they are all leather. There was a bit of a scuff on the back heel of one shoe. One complaint, the little plastic tip on the heel of both shoes fell off within a month of having them. I ended up having to pay a bit more money to have those fixed. However, to be honest, I didn’t inspect it close enough when they arrived to know if they were damaged when they came or if I did it. I definitely could have damaged it myself.

Ted Barker’s - These were in really good condition as well! All leather as well, not that it would matter…

Size

I wear somewhere between a size 7 and an 8. I ordered all the shoes in size 8. It was a huge challenge for me to buy shoes without trying them on or having any sense of how the designers would fit.

Sam Edelman’s - These were too big but guess what?! I still wear them all the time! Having the ankle strap really helps keep them in place and they aren’t so big that they are uncomfortable to wear. Overall, not a total loss.

Stuart Weitzman’s - These again, were perfect, they fit like a dream. So comfortable and being used I feel like they had already gone through the “break-in” period. So the uncomfortable break in period was skipped, a win I was not expecting.

Poletto’s - These were a bit tight. I still wear them but they are uncomfortable, and by the end of the day I am walking around the office barefoot.

Ted Barker’s - These didn’t fit at all, my foot wouldn’t even go into the shoe….. Major disappointment. They also use European sizing, so I sort of wonder if when I put 8 American it didn’t translate to the correct European size.

Cost

I spent a total of $190 on all 4 pairs of shoes and ended up being able to return the Ted Barker’s. They were about $40-$50. A seriously good deal. Retail cost? This is where this site comes in amazing.

  • Sam Edelman’s - $140

  • Stuart Weitzman’s - $450

  • Poletto’s - $100

  • Ted Barker’s - $195

    TOTAL: $745

Total savings: 75%

Something to watch for though, not all shoes can be returned. Especially not being able to try things on in a store, this is something I definitely needed. Ya I saved 75% off of true retail, but I still don’t want to keep a shoe that my foot won’t fit in.

Overall Order of Glam:

Stuart Weitzman’s

Seriously these were amazing!! Good quality, comfortable, affordable. I would have no qualms about buying another pair of Weitzman’s from Thred Up. These were also the most high-end pair I purchased, so I wonder if that has something to do with how well they wore? The higher the original quality the longer they will last, right? Having a hot pair of bright red high heels is just so classically glamourous. Everyone should have a go-to pair.

Sam Edelman’s

I get compliments on these all. the. time. I loveeee these. Being in the flyover states suede season is really only 3 weeks, but it’s worth wearing them every day for the entire 3 weeks!! Not to mention pink has been my favorite color since I was probably 6 months old, and now I am twenty-blahhhh years. I will never not love these hot pink heels.

Poletto’s

These are so uncomfortable, but make my legs look so good. It’s such a catch 22 but they are definitely worth the slight pinch. Fashion is pain, and pain is fashion.

Ted Barker’s

These ended up last, only because they didn’t fit. Otherwise they would have been much higher! Very high quality!
