Brunch Review - Tupelo Honey Café

Southern Comfort meets brunch!! Check out September’s Brunch Locale Review!

I should note, this is a chain restaurant. I don’t love chains, but I do occasionally make an exception. Tupelo is in 14 midwestern and southern states so not a huge chain.

Ambiance - 10/10

Whoever did the interior decorating for this place should be awarded a Grammy (or whatever the equivalent is for interior design). It is GORG! SO GORG! It’s all southern. Over the top patterns, florals, and macrame, with plants everywhere! Though the plants were fake, which draws away from the ambiance a bit, but as someone who kills a succulent a week I can understand the need for fake. They are good fakes though, you’d have to touch it to tell.

So much natural light with these massive windows. They also have a patio that is doggie friendly! :)

Food - 9/10

Food was absolutely AMAZING!! I had the All I 'Avo' Wanted Bennie. I hadn’t ever had an eggs benedict, I have a really weird aversion to pouched eggs, something about a partially boiled egg that just rubs me wrong, but this was great!! The side of smashed potatoes was also so freakin’ good. The biscuit it came on…also AMAZING. I can’t rave enough about the food. I ate every piece of it and would have licked the plate if that was acceptable in public.

They are known for their grits. My bestie got the Shrimp & Grits she didn’t LOVEEE it but grits to me are a bit gross in their own right. Kind of a savory oatmeal which is a bit ew.

Side note, the serving sizes were great. They weren’t too large or too small. I hate having too large of servings! I don’t want to take it home with me or box it up to leave it on the table.

Mimosa - 7/10

I had two mimosas, because, well because I am me. I tried the Southern Hospitality which combines peach nectar with pineapple juice and champagne. God, that was one of the best mimosa I have ever had. I love pineapple juice so this was a perfect choice for me! My second one was not as good…the Bless Your Heart tasted a bit like a grandma. Similar to a lavender mimosa it just tasted a bit like essential oils.

The do not offer bottomless but they do offer a mega. Which is an okay compromise, I suppose.

In addition, one mimosa costs almost $15…they are NOT that great. Lots of places offer bottomless for $20 or $25, it’s really difficult to stomach paying $15 for 1.

Service - 7/10

Service was eh. We sat on a high top in the bar area and the entire area was the responsibility of the one bar tender. He was doing the best he could, but he was making all the brunch drinks plus taking care of 10 tables. There was plenty of staff just milling about, I am not sure why no one covered that space for him.

In general, it was way too expensive for a chain restaurant and for what they offered you. Drinks were good, if you ordered a good one. Food was great and the atmosphere gorg.
