Coffee Cruise - Part Two

Coffee addict for life and getting increasingly more addicted as adulthood takes full affect. 50% of my blood is coffee (the other half is champagne or Riesling depending on the day). Here are some of the spots I’ve hit up on part two of the coffee tour of the state!

It should be noted that I am a regular latte lover, no frills.

St. Kilda’s

Not a traditional coffee shop by any means. More of a restaurant that serves coffee. But the Australian coffee, espresso over ice cream is the best thing EVER!!

With 3 locations in the metro there is always a location in reach for your Australian coffee.

  • St. Kilda’s Collective - 333 5th St, West Des Moines, IA 50265

  • St. Kilda’s Café & Bakery - 300 SW 5th St, Des Moines, IA 50309

  • St. Kilda’s Café & Bakery - 12695 University Ave Suite 140, Clive, IA 50325

HobNob Coffee & Wine Bar

1000 Walnut St, Des Moines, IA 50309

Located in the Fort Des Moines Hotel this coffee and wine bar has the best aesthetic! And close to the best chocolate croissant.

Like seriously check out the below photos, that green floral wallpaper on the ceiling is EVERYTHING!!

Zanzibar’s

2723 Ingersoll Ave, Des Moines, IA 50312

So uncomplicated yet so good! A long standing traditionalist coffee house. Simple white cups but amazing coffee. No frills necessary.

Brewhemia - Cedar Rapids

1202 3rd St SE #101, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401

Every trip to see my family I stop at Brewhemia for a cup of coffee and an egg and cheese sandwich. Always a good choice when I am in the area!

Fredrich’s

  • 4126 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311

  • 1821 22nd St STE 101, West Des Moines, IA 50266

  • 5800 Fleur Dr, Des Moines, IA 50321

  • 4632 NW 86th St, Urbandale, IA 50322

I didn’t love Fredrich’s a bit too bitter for my liking, no rich flavoring but it will do in a pinch.

Mahlo’s Coffee & Mini Doughnuts

4800 Mills Civic Pkwy #105, West Des Moines, IA 50265

Okay, mini doughnuts?! Who cares if their coffee is good (which it’s mediocre at best, maybe their specialty drinks would have been better?) Bite size pieces of Hawaiian themed perfection!

Sidecar Coffee - Cedar Falls

Website

2215 College St, Cedar Falls, IA 50613

Nothing quite like a walk down memory lane! In this case, a quick stop in Cedar Falls for a football game and I couldn’t resist a stop at Sidecar for a caffeine hit, blast from the past.

Staff were not super friendly but they were probably 20 years old operating on 3 hours of sleep so understandable.

Just as good as it always was!! I definitely see more road trips in my future!
