Movies 101

Not Scary Halloween Movies

  • Hocus Pocus (and Hocus Pocus 2) - can we all talk about how we’ve waited almost 30 years for this and it’s finally here!?!?

  • Halloween Town 1 & 2 - anything past 1 & 2 are really not that great and not worth the watch :(

  • The Addams Family - the original ONLY please!!

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas - Tim Burton, the king of weird

  • The Corpse Bride - Mr. Burton does it again

  • Ghost Busters - this is one where I love the new movie just as much as the old

  • Hotel Transylvania - ALL OF THEM

  • Haunted Mansion - Eddie Murphy at his best

  • Goosebumps - this always scared me as a child now it’s just a Halloween classic

  • What We Do In The Shadows - seriously the funniest Halloween movie, 3 vampires who live in modern day…

Scary Halloween Movies

I should preface this with my tastes tend towards suspenseful not gory. I hate gore…

  • As Above So Below - based in the catacombs in France

  • Winchester - the ultimate haunted house

  • IT - I still hate clowns because of this movie

  • Ready or Not - the scariest game of hide-n-seek

  • Rosemary’s Baby - old school but still amazing

  • The Conjuring (and all movies in that series)

  • Christine - the King of Horror, Stephen King

  • Pet Sematary - the King defends his thrown

  • The Exorcist

  • The Amityville Horror

Okay, I could go on forever, these are just my top 10 of each…

Costumes

I hate how expensive it is to buy a costume from a traditional stores. To get anything good you easily spend $200-$300 a year and they never fit right and are so uncomfortable. So what do I do? I create my own!

First, I find something I want to re-create. This year we’re going with Glam Cowgirl!

Adult Red Cowgirl - this only includes gloves & dress - $49.99

Hat - $14.99

Lasso - $19.99

Next, I go to SHEIN, Forever21 or Amazon, basically a cheap, lower quality store and recreate it! Now, this requires some planning and prep time. You cannot try and order something last minute. I am a planner so this works for me!

Let’s be honest, I would totally wear that red dress for another occasion. Another plus to re-creating a look instead of buying it all together, re-wear!

Red Dress - $33

Betsey Johnson Boots (already had them)

Now this look doesn’t have any dramatic make-up, which is a bit disappointing…peep my vampire queen make-up look from last year!

PS I just wore this red velvet dress to a wedding!! Re-wear is totally a thing!!

Halloween Bash…the Ultimate Party

It might be formal of me but I ALWAYS send an invite, it just adds a little something that a Facebook Event doesn’t have…Also, it gives me a place to put COSTUMES REQUIRED! RE-QUI-RED!! Don’t show up without a costume, I will put your boyfriend in my mermaid costume from 3 years ago.

Food

Snacks are a MUST! Everybody needs a snack. Obviously all Halloween themed. I should also say, I am a great cook so all snacks are super simple!

  • Jack-O-Lantern Veggie Tray

  • Mummy Brownies

  • White Chocolate Ghost Strawberries

  • “Rotten” Deviled Eggs

Décor

I love decorating for the seasons! Creating a boujee spooky setting is essential! 5 things I use every year are:

Fun

Okay, so you can’t have a party without a couple of games or activities. I know that sounds a bit like kindergarten but it helps keep people entertained for the evening.
