How I Get My Nails Done for $40 a Month

Nobody has the time to commit to getting their nails done twice a month. Let alone the money. I remember manis being $25. They are like $45 MINIMUM now!! Well guess who found a cheap and fast alternative?! Here’s how I do it!!

I know what you all are thinking…she’s full of it! My secret to perfect nails all month long without breaking the bank? Press ons!!! I know. I know. I’ve lost some of you but stay with me. Press on nails have come a long way since the 2000s.

Not all brands are created equal. I found that out the hard way. The number one thing when looking at a brand is the number of nails you get. Nothing makes a mani look cheap then an ill-fitted nail. The more nails in a pack the better the odds you’ll find your perfect fitting nail.

Pro Tip: They are numbered VERY discretely on the tip of the nails so if you find one that fits the right hand look for the same number for the left hand.

  • Glamnetic - 9/10

    • Trendy designs but not a lot of classic colors

    • So many nail sizes in each pack

    • Different lengths available

    • 1.5 - 2 week - I find these last the longest out of any brands I’ve tried

    • Cost: $20-$22 a pack

    • Available at ULTA

  • OPI - 6/10

    • Classic designs and colors but not a lot of options

    • Limited number of nail sizes in each pack. I had some issues finding a size that fit my nails

    • Mix of long and short length options

    • Lasted about a week but I reglued them and they lasted another week. The color started to peal off the nails themselves after about 2 weeks so that’s definitely the max wear length

    • Cost: $13 -$15 a pack

    • Available at ULTA

  • KISS - 4/10

    • The OG press on nail brand

    • Single Night Event. Horrible wear. I had the nails break off 3 days into wearing them. Like the nails themselves cracked in half, the glue didn’t come undone

    • Limited number of nail sizes in each pack though I did not have any problems finding a good fit for my nails

    • LOTS of different designs and colors

    • Cost: $8.5-$10 a pack

    • Available at ULTA

  • Olive & June - 8/10

    • Shorter lengths

    • LOTS of different designs and classic colors

    • A little bit thick but not super noticeable

    • Lasted about 2 weeks with a re-glue after about 8 days

    • Cost: $10 a pack

    • Available at Target

I should note I am VERY hard on my nails. I sometimes feel like I type for a living. I also am the sole housekeeper in my household so I am constantly cleaning and exposing my nails to dirty dish water. They still last up to two weeks.

I use to spend 2-3 hours every two weeks at the nail saloon. It now takes me about 10 minutes to find the nails that fit me best and then glue them on. It is such a time saver. It really is a no brainer for me.
