Coffee Cruise Part 3
My coffee addiction continues for another round of coffee reviews.
Coffee Smiths - 8/10
This hidden gem is located in Waukee. I don’t know how I have missed it for so many years. Actually, yes I do. Honestly, given it’s name, I thought is was a chain coffee shop of the same name where I grew up.
Coffee was good, rich and smooth. Overall aesthetic was exposed wood, black metal chairs and black accessories with a bit of greenery mixed in.
Overall a little better then good but not great.
Address: 770 Alice's Rd Waukee, IA 50263
Mars Coffee - 6/10
I don’t really know what was going on but we ended up in there with a group of like 25 runners, 2 homeless and then the 3 of us…eclectic group…
Coffee was good. Above average but not a 10/10. My husband really liked their mocha, one of the best he’s ever had but he’s not the bar we judge our standards on.
Address: 2318 University Ave. Des Moines, IA 50311
Northern Vessel - 9/10
They had the COOLEST coffee cups! This coffee was so smooth!! Which I know is a weird adjective for coffee but it was amazing!
The shop didn’t have the most seating and it was oddly configured - like you had to sit in the window sill which was a little odd but it was super busy so if you are going to go, go early! They also had this amazing plant centerpiece that was gorgeous.
Wasn’t in the best neighborhood but it didn’t seem to be an issue.
Address: 1201 Keosauqua Way Des Moines, IA 50309
La Mie - 3/10
I really have nothing good to say about this place. The coffee was mediocre at the best sip. The pastries, meh. The service and staff?! HORRID!!!! Seriously so bad. The checker gave me attitude because I wanted to sit and have my coffee. They gave my friends the wrong coffee, even though everyone gets a number.
They are super busy in the mornings so they have these little signs on the table telling you the limit of sitting is 45 minutes and they actually have staff going around kicking people out of their tables!! We quickly got out of there and went to another coffee shop.
HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Address: 841 42nd St. Des Moines, IA 50312
Porch Light Coffeehouse - 7/10
A little bit of a drive but oh god it was so worth it! What an adorable little coffee shop! Super cute vibe! Eclectic décor and ambiance. Very easy going staff and seemed to be quite family friendly. Kids galore!
Coffee was really good! No frills, which I love. We also had the coffee cake, which we had heard was to DIE for. It was good but nothing super special. A good addition to the coffee non-the-less.
Located in Uptown Ankeny. I will definitely be back and maybe to hit up some of those little boutiques too!
